The Light of Saint Charbel's Statue

On the eve of Saint Charbel's canonization on October 8, 1977, a miraculous event unfolded at Annaya. The crowd witnessed the right hand of the statue of Saint Charbel illuminating for a few minutes, blessing all present. On his canonization day, Pope Paul VI highlighted how the light from Saint Charbel's hermitage had radiated, touching hearts worldwide with love.

Saint Charbel's Image: A Divine Snapshot from a Pilgrimage

On May 8, 1950, during a pilgrimage to St Maroun’s Monastery in Annaya, Mount Lebanon, four Maronite Catholic Priests from America, unknowingly captured an iconic image of St Charbel. Fr George Webby noticed an additional person with a white beard in the developed photo, identified by the old monks as St Charbel. Born on May 8, 1828, the coincidence added to the significance. This photo became the basis for all subsequent depictions of St Charbel, including those at St Peter’s Basilica during his beatification and canonization.
